Ox Mountain Railway

I was down in London last week for a Lara Fabian concert and travelling on the Tube the idea occurred to me of having station names based on misspelt Tube station names at a future Kirkbean exhibition (maybe even an underground train system - easy to set up, just a blank table top with the trains running underneath it!)

I came up with Piccalily Circus and Convent Garden and then ran out of ideas.

You can always have the most inaccurate tube station name - Baron's Court - because he never was :devil::devil::devil:

You might be able to do something with Tooting Bec

But to confuse every foreigner in town - how would they understand Elephant and Castle ?

They don't even need to be misspelt for me if I'm not using my specs!

As for E & C - The Elephant Never Forgets (London's Last Tram Week)!

Many Londoners refer to the station, and the area as The Elephant - also has been the proud recipient of London's most ugly building award - about 20 years ago and still standing :tmi::tmi::tmi:

I suppose you can also go back to that glorious recording of 'Beyond the Fringe'

'........half as Gold as Green' :D:D:D

or if you fancy modelling the Bonzo Dog Doo Da Band - Finchley Central

I actually have a Mornington Crescent mug with the Underground totem.
Yes, you probably have the late Willie Rushton to thank for that.:nod::nod:

Then you have:

Made of Ale or Maid of Ale (take yer pick - no, that's not a rube station)

Shepherd's Bush - remember this is a family forum

and..........................

Bal Ham - gateway to the south :D:D

Alternatively, you might wish to follow the example of a Norfolk Maternity Hospital which decided to name its wards after well known Norfolk Broads :devil::devil::devil: :cool:

An alternative name for my railway - Iarnrȯd Sliabh Gamh - not phonetically the same but it is in translation.:)

I had two attempts to run a train yesterday, during an afternoon of balmy weather (no coat needed!).

First, just the loco. There is an unintended mistake in the pairing of the tender to the loco ....

Today, the weather is identical to yesterday - so I might get chance again (after cutting what passes for a lawn)!

I like that rake of coaches Mick, I reckon a string of those would look good behind my Garratt!:nod:

I like them too - have a fourth one somewhere:think:!

A good successful run their, Mick, although the trestle in the next to the last photo looks to need a bit of TLC.

A close examination revealed terminal decay in several areas ... about seven or eight baulks virtually removed themselves as I started work ....

Repairs (1).JPG
It was much a case of supporting the viable remains rather than a wholesale replacement..

Repairs (2).JPG

Once completed, I needed to apply some preservative. It was my intention to do the job before I put the track back. However, after a cuppa I forgot that part o the stage process and screwed everything back - only lost three track screws - then I remembered! I wasn't going to repeat the act of losing the screws so it was a slow job apply or trying to access everything.

In the end, everything in that vicinty got blathered in preservative (apart from the track below which I protected). The bleached Aristo sleepers looked much better too - might (or might not) treat the rest of the plastic!

The sun soon dried up the wood treatment so I cleaned the railheads and got a tram out to test......

All Ok on the High level line (Ivy Ledge needfs pruning again!).

However, there was a continuity problem on the the lower level - my standing on the track must have disturbed the odd joint - so I checked every one on the long dead section (thank goodness for 1500mm rail sections!). The tran train was soon able to complete its' journey..

And, of course, all proceedings were closely observed...

So it was all worth the effort...

Mick, those coaches wot I love :inlove::inlove:, who's, what are they? I've been looking at Accucraft USA stuff and I'm now more than a bit confuddled. There's 'millions' that look the same, as in identical; except of the livery.

Pretty certain that they're Mr Bachmann's best - probably not a current livery.

I don't think Accy 1:20.3 would go round Mick's curves

But they probably would go reasonably well with my 1:19 Gar-ratt.

Looking now at Bachman.
