The EJ&KLR: Austrian narrow gauge in Cheshire

Re:The EJ&KLR project

Giles - that is an excellent idea - I will see if I can pick up a few more small conifers, as on the outside front edge that might work really nicely.

It's interesting to see how much they've grown in just a few months. Mum's just trimmed the tallest one back - we think we'll trim them over the winter when they're growing the slowest. I don't envisage us letting them get much taller than the light green ones - and if they do we'll rip them out and replace them.

Re:The EJ&KLR project

Really starting to look the part, giving me more motivation to work on my railway!

Re:The EJ&KLR project

James the RR is looking great. Looks a lot like mine did when I first started very similar design in track. Then I expanded from that. Like Giles said planting a row of trees and creating a few blocks will help the layout look bigger. Aslo put some obstacle like a boulder or something around the inside of the curves. Cant wai to see it in a few years from now. Its like a fine wine gets better with age.

Re:The EJ&KLR project

The layout is looking excellent,James, and the van conversion fits in perfectly. The "development" pictures are a great record of how far you've got since the start, and very useful for others, too.

As for the B&Q decking, twists seem to be a standard part of it!

Re:The EJ&KLR project

Thanks chaps - I'd not thought about exhibiting - I suppose I could write up the building so that it could be used in a magazine or society thing? I've plenty of photos!

Re:The EJ&KLR project

James, in his editorial in this month's Garden Rail Tag is asking for more articles on G scale track powered railways. I reckon the EJ&KLR would fit the bill perfectly. You get some hobby money for anything that is published too.

PM either me or Tag if you're interested (same goes for anyone else too).

Re:The EJ&KLR project

James, you have posted great pictures of your construction. I am now working on a design for my backyard layout and I would love to see a long write up of the process in Garden Rail with even more pictures. Maybe even in two or three parts/issues. And, if Tag reads this thread, you'll probably hear from him. :D Start writing!

Re:The EJ&KLR project

I've made the most of the weather and had the Rugens and repainted vans out for a run on the line this weekend. It performed very well and looks at home on the line. However you need to turn up the juice on the starter set controller, it's DCC fitted - and I notice the same thing happens with the MTS factory fitted U-tank I have.

Anyway - I might well consider swapping out the faulty board that Peter told me about so I can remove the DCC chip - but that can wait as it runs fine for now. Enough chat, enjoy the photos... (27 in total so a couple of posts coming...)

Re:The EJ&KLR project

Great pix mate....

Re:The EJ&KLR project

Looks excellent James, some great pics there.

Re:The EJ&KLR project

Some excellent pictures there James, I'm looking forward to seeing your 0-8-0 conversion, the original is not the most handsome locomotive.

Re:The EJ&KLR project

Garry - not sure what's going to happen to the Rugens at the moment. It's a sweet runner but my tank conversion will not be possible. I'm wondering whether it will stay in the roster, or move on... We'll see.

I had it out running again today with the first items I repainted in January. What a long way we've come in such a short space of time.

Re:The EJ&KLR project

Nice Pics James
