What happened at your workbench today?

If it is noisy in one direction:
Try swapping the bogies end-to-end..
You could turn the motor 180 degrees? - You might need slightly longer motor wires..

I'll try the bogie swap, as it sounds as if that is where the problem is. There was no obvious, excessive wear/play that I could see.

A bit more progress with the railcar: filler has been flatted, imperfections filled, re-flatted, primed, flatted, and a topcoat of cream applied. Too heavily, it seems: so guess what? More flatting;

...but then that's what the long winter evenings are for, aren't they?

Last week, modell-werkstatt.de sent me this kit. As you can see, it is where the 45 mm track and the 64 mm track part ways. Or come together, according to where you stand.
The kit isn't difficult. The hardest part I found to be inserting the chairs into the sleepers. The chairs have a stem that, by my measurement, is about 2.75 mm thick, and they go into pre-drilled 2.5 mm holes. There are over 50 of them. Made my fingers hurt.
The frog looks to be brass, but isn't. It is isolating, and the connecting rails are electrically linked as they would on a normal LGB point.

I needed a similar thing at the other end, but with an R1 radius. These aren't available so I botched one myself. It works, but it looks a bit crude. Maybe one day I'll build another one that doesn't need to be switched.

Out with the trimline, which always tidies up the red/cream joint...

...then a coat of silver on the roof. I think it needs darkening down a bit, and maybe a CDRJC -style roof rack.

Oh, and the windows, they need a wash before re-fitting...

You might need a check rail on the 64mm straight through path :nod:

Looking very smart - I'm interested in the lining material is it self-adhesive on a roll or suchlike?

I have some very similar looking stuff, I found a coat of varnish ensures it does not 'curl'.

Welding rod, and two temperatures of solder, did the trick.

It now just needs a ladder and some electrickery.
Very nice, I am finding that my red of choice ‘Halfords Audi Laser Red’ to pretty well match that is no longer one of their colours after a big change a year or two back. What was your choice here please?

Well spotted! I did ponder it. My rationale is that since it's the straight path, it may need it less than does the curved path.

But whatever 64 mm stock I come up with (I haven't any so far) will be extensively tested, so any problem that occurs then, will be addressed then.

This Gauge 3 beastie has been on the bench/to deal with for a while now. Bought at the G3 gig last year it was just not running after a few minutes run after full charge. I had assumed it was old batteries but they were showing good charge with just the MLS giving noise but no motor function. So I investigated to see if any of the wiring to the Fosworks setup was out of kilter, no so then decided to take the motor unit out and test that on just battery direct power. Nowt, ah we could ave a problem here, so a bit of fiddling found the delrin chain out of kilter and for some reason the motor locked solid and gears completely dry. Finger moving the motor and limited application of grease to the metal gears got a big improvement and motor running. 30 mins each way and running like a sewing machine. So put all back together running all ok with Radio working. Only irritating thing is MLS that does horn at each move and every few feet, easily sorted when I get round to it. Oh and re tidy the boards to stick them back in the roof to be near invisible.IMG_8348.jpegIMG_8349.jpeg
