The EJ&KLR: Austrian narrow gauge in Cheshire

Re:The EJ&KLR project

Wish it was snowy here- we are basking in high 20's celsius. :D:D I have just been out doing the painting and ballasting in preparation for the Great New Zealand Garden Railway Convention in a couple of weekends time. Anyone sick of the cold- just pop out here for the show AND the sunshine!!8D The poor Aussies have it to the opposite extreme- it is toooo hot over the ditch. My heart and thoughts go out to them.

Agreed a very good read on a snowy day.

Re:The EJ&KLR project

Tell me about it! I'm back working in the mine near Narrabri in NW NSW - It is boiling HOT! - 40+ degs. C most days. And if that's not enough we have the bush fires to contend with. And to think my railway back home in Yorkshire is under a covering of snow, and I have still not tried my snowplow!

Re:The EJ&KLR project

Well James you convinced to get the online Garden Rail. I started looking through the magazine and so far I really like it. I think it is a much better magazine then our US GR. Although I have a US RR the magazine is still very useful and nice. I still prefere a hard copy but this will do for now. Thanks for the advice.

Re:The EJ&KLR project

Garden rail ,G scale articles, and Tag Gorton ,a winning combination
congratulations to those that have articles published thank goodness Mr T is back at his rightful place:thumbup::thumbup:

Re:The EJ&KLR project

Shawn no problem!

News in from the EJ&KLR, snow has close the line. The early crew ventured out in VL10 but despite making it though some of the smaller drifts they found the snow at the river bridge impassible.

Re:The EJ&KLR project

James finally got to read your article. Nice job and I really enjoyed reading it. Your RR is looking great.
John next article to read is your Lumberjack article. Im working my way backwards. I have a lot of catching up to do.
Tag great magazine. Much better then our US garden railway magazine. Alot of great info and Railroads.

Re:The EJ&KLR project

222? You lucky lucky bastards, all we got was 221
221? You toffs! all we ever had was 220!
220? We would have sold our mothers for 220! 219 was all we could find
(with apologies to the Pythons; but the actual state of GR issues in Aust at present...)

Oh - and congratulations in anticipation, James!

Re:The EJ&KLR project

Can you believe it is last November since I last used the outdoor line (http://ejklr.blogspot.co.uk/2012/11/autumn-on-line.html). < Link To http://ejklr.blogspot.co..../autumn-on-line.html). The right of way had no maintenance all winter and the snow and heavy rain have taken their toll on the ballast.

So before we ran trains today Elly and I re-ballasted about half the line... We did run some trains but the heavens opened which was good for bedding in the fresh ballast but the heavens opened which was good for bedding in the fresh ballast but did stop play!

Re:The EJ&KLR project

Thanks Paul and Paul, I'm happy with watching trains run round and round and building more models so for now the limited nature of the line suits me :)

Re:The EJ&KLR project

Before the heavens opened yesterday Elly and I ran a few trains. Unfortunately I didn't take any of the Faur Lyd2 but I did snap some of the railbus and new servicing facilities at Alisendorf shed.

The water crane and tool rack were Christmas presents - the water crane definitely needs toning down a bit, and will live inside, but the tool rack has been left outside and bedded in to see how it fairs in the weather.

Re:The EJ&KLR project

Nice railbus James

Re:The EJ&KLR project

Nice to see the line up and running again James. Im with you on watching the trains runround and round. Operations is too much work for me, especially when you work full time and raising kids. Its the only time to relax.

Re:The EJ&KLR project

Yep, I'm right there with you Shawn, and James, both on all accounts. I have been know to nod off on the garden seat when running trains (though not while running steams!).
