What happened at your workbench today?

Well my workshop has been a problem since I moved in 12 years ago, poorly lit. I have done a few options to sort it out but none really worked well enough to allow evening modelling. So yesterday I saw some LED spots at a bigger Lidl than mine and a plan came to mind. Some wood, wire, trunking (not quite finished yet) and a plug with some wire, hooks and screws came up with this bodgy looking solution. It does work very well, one of the previous 3 inadequate lamps seen on the wall. They probably worked in an office situation that the previous dwellers used the space for. But now I can see very well to work in the evening.image.jpg

In an attempt to address the modeller's block I've had since my recent sickness, I decided to tackle the absence of a PWay gang on the Ferrocarril Val de Martyn, to go with the quirky Isetta. A bargain Preiser set from eBay has been suitably Spanified, losing the Germanic corporate workwear with some G scale headgear and clothing more appropriate to 1960s Spain.

I like that Isetta, as well as the PW gang customising.

Oh yes, I agree! The Isetta is just the quicky sort of thing Mizzy would like too.

Shame you melted the circuit....

Ooh, I've got one of those, always used it as set-dressing having seen a red bubble car outside my favourite toy shop in the Isle of Man in 1960-something!

I'm still mourning the demise of Maplin.

For a couple of years, the second piece of rolling stock that I built -an IOM half-brake- has had two windows missing,

and today's miserable weather sent me to the workbench looking for something to do...
As the body, roof and floor are all fixed firmly together, I needed to pull the windows into contact with the frames while they dried. So out came the hot-melt glue gun and some cocktail sticks; the sticks were fixed to the windows with a blob of glue, while the edges had a bead of UHU applied. The windows were then wrangled into the coach compartment and pulled into position.
20240905_103659.jpgHaving left them for a couple of hours, a sharp pull broke the cocktail sticks free, bringing the glue with it: it doesn't really take very well to shiny plastics...

...and now you can't really tell that they had been out.

OK, so yesterday I pulled.

With Jimmy's confirmation that the shaft is somewhere around 0.09 inches wide, and checking the worm with a 2mm drill which was sloppy (Guiseppe) I have ordered a double ended motor and flywheel from MSC with 2.3mm shaft. I have the MSC motor/gearbox in the Yeti, and the motor is a chunky bit of kit, so I'm hoping that it'll give enough power to move the Slim Princess.

Watch this space :p

>:)>:)>:)>:)>:)

Just waiting for a flywheel from Slater's

The new motor arrangement will need to be at a different angle (was horizontal between the frames) pointing up around 45 degrees and will need a bit of trimming to the internal boiler weight. There's enough room for some scraps of lead on top to bring it back up to par :nod:

AND 2.6 DAYS LATER: this 3d printing lark certainly aint quick ! and half the bed of the printer was stuck to the model as it finnished at 1am this morning and could only check it this morning !

This is my first prototype (in PLA) of replacement baseplate for the Kiss GE 6/6 II that suffered from "zincpest".... Huge thanks as always to ge_rik ge_rik for his tutoridge and inspiration to stick and use TINKERCAD, It seamed like a "toy" software when i first logged in but it really is a capable bit of stuff in the tinternet and easy to learn if you stick with it, and not mind boggling like the more expensive software...They just need to so a slightly more exotic version and cheap for hobbyists !

That looks quite impressive.
How rigid is your replacement?

PhilP
Good point, Better than I thought but not ideal if im honest. But Its just a prototype to check my 3d drawings (which need a tweek), I was considering getting it lazer cut in a steel anyway, quite a few people that offer this service in area (telford) as want an authentic replacement and the weight ! of the original

Oh and this PLA is made from Corn starch I read... eco friendly yes, but wouldnt last as long an LGB loco does/will !!
